New 868-MHz wireless module

07 July 2015

Phoenix Contact is expanding its Trusted Wireless 2.0 range of Radioline wireless communication products with an 868-MHz wireless module.

The new module utilises the 868-MHz frequency, which is publicly available and license-free in Europe, at a maximum transmission power of 500 mW, facilitating easy communication of I/O signals and serial data.

The module is said to be particularly suitable for outdoor applications such as in water and wastewater management or power supply networks. It offers a simple solution for non-time-critical applications where signals need to be transmitted over long distances of up to 20 km.

An advantage of this wireless module stems from the adjustable data rate of its wireless interface in the range of 1.2 to 120 kbps, which increases the reception sensitivity. A low data rate can span a longer distance than high data rates.

The Radioline wireless system’s I/O mapping distributes signals across the system without requiring any prior programming. All it takes is a turn of the knurled knob to assign the inputs and outputs. Each wireless module can be modularly expanded by up to 32 expansion modules.
