Overcoming new measurement challenges

A new range of strain gauges has been introduced by HBM to meet the demanding requirements of measuring strain in fibre composites.

New materials offering high strength, such as fibre composites, can pose a challenge for strain gauges used in measurement purposes, particularly when pushing components to their mechanical limit of performance.  For example, a strain gauge subjected to alternating loads at increased load levels weakens and fails earlier than the component under the test. 

The response to this problem from HBM has been the addition of the M Series strain gauge which have been developed for high resistance to alternating loads, at increased strain levels and high temperatures – up to 300°C. It is available with various geometries, measuring grid lengths and temperature response matching.
