Alarm management system added to all-in-one controller

16 June 2015

UniStream, a combined PLC and HMI all-in-one controller offering from Unitronics now offers a built-in comprehensive alarm management system.

Designed in accordance with the ISA 18.2 standard guidelines for the implementation, operation, and management of alarm systems in the process industries, the system is supported by a newversion of Unilogic, UniStream’s application development software.

Said to be easy to use, the UniStream alarm management system includes a number of features that allow operators to detect alarms, analyse them, and to then take corrective actions. The Alarm Banner, for example, can immediately alert operators when alarms occur, and the alarm summary table enables managers to review active alarms and to perform any necessary actions.

Another feature is the Alarm Status Viewer, an interface which allows operators to view all of the alarms that exist in the system, check their status, disable and shelve them, and even to enter comments via the HMI’s virtual keyboard. In addition, the system supports state-based Alarm Suppression options, which allow the programmer to optimise alarm reports, prevent ‘nuisance’ alarms from occurring and avoid alarm flooding conditions.

“Our new Alarm Management System will allow machine builders and automation control engineers to reduce unplanned downtime, Increase safety, improve operators’ effectiveness and improve the machine/ process performance and productivity” said Ofer Farkash, product manager for UniStream systems.

The Alarm Management System is included in the latest UniStream and UniLogic software release, which can be downloaded from the Unitronics website at no charge.  To download the latest UniLogic software go to www.unitronics.com/support/downloads
