Hazardous area remote terminals
12 August 2014
Eaton has introduced a new MTL GECMA RT remote operating terminal, which is said to enable reduced operation costs as well as helping to optimise productivity and increase plant safety.
The MTL GECMA RT remote terminal is suitable for use in hazardous EX zone areas. The modular unit comprises five electronic modules – the display unit, power supply, communications modules, keyboard, and mouse. These components can be replaced individually, helping to increase plant availability. Each module of the unit has been individually approved to global hazardous certification for Zone 1 environments ensuring safe handling on site and independent of the housing.
Features of the unit include an intrinsically safe cable for secure data transmission. Users can specify an Ethernet or fibre optic cable between the control room and remote terminal, with no need for additional external cable protection. This offers wiring cost savings.
A visual alarm on the unit will immediately warn users in the event of a process failure. The alarm visualisation system checks the correct data transmission to the display in real time and alerts users by way of a flashing red icon, enabling them to act quickly to rectify the problem.
