Functional safety without safe I/O modules

05 August 2014

The new TÜV-certified Safe AI solution package from Phoenix Contact is designed to process safety-related analogue values.

With this and software-based safety solution, safety-related analogue I/O modules are no longer required. The solution package also includes a consultation service provided by the company’s safety experts.

With its Safe AI solution package, an automation solution for PROFINET applications has been made available for the first time by the company, which can process physical measured values in a safety-related way in the standardised range from 4-20 mA, based on standard sensors. As such, no safe analogue input modules should be installed, since the safe processing of signals is fully performed by the software.

The TÜV-certificaton enables safety functions up to SIL 3 and PL e to be implemented.
