Guidance on IEC 61439 standards

12 November 2013

Rittal has produced a free guide book, entitled ‘Standard-compliant switchgear and control protection’, which offers an insight into the new IEC 61439 standards and to assist and offer guidance on how to comply with the standards.

The new IEC 61439 standards come into force from November 2014 and will impact the design of the panel, the selection of components and the testing methodology.

Basically, says Rittal, the panel will become a system, which means that the designer/panel builder needs to consider the enclosure, the effects of heat upon the components, cooling equipment, busbar system, mechanical properties and the generation of test documentation, which is a requirement.
