zenon meets TÜV SÜD requirements for certified Energy Data Management

23 August 2013

The certification body of TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH has recently confirmed that the reporting and HMI/SCADA software, zenon from COPA-DATA, meets the defined requirements of the TÜV SÜD "Certified Energy Data Management" standard. It therefore meets criteria set out by the international energy standard ISO 50001.

The objective of energy management in accordance with ISO 50001 is the continuous improvement of the energy-related performance of a company. The standard supports production teams in manufacturing companies in creating the underlying conditions for this improvement process using the PDCA cycle. Here, P stands for ‘Plan’, D for ‘Do’, C for ‘Check’ and A for ‘Act’.

For successful certification, a range of specific system properties, such as virtual meter points, energy consumption trends, the determination of limit values, warnings in the event of breaches, the creation of key performance indicators, and the generation of energy reports must be met. To this end, the experts from TÜV SÜD carried out a precise evaluation of the zenon software in accordance with TÜV SÜD criteria at the premises of the developers. In addition, implementation of the Energy Data Management System with zenon in a real industrial environment was an important requirement for certification. The issue of the certificate confirms that zenon meets the TÜV SÜD requirements and the corresponding support for companies as defined in Chapter 4.6.1. of ISO 50001.
