Smart motor can be operated remotely
02 July 2013
With its new Smart Motor, Lenze has sought to combine the simplicity of an AC motor with the technical benefits of an electronic drive control. This has resulted in a reduction in the number of different drive variations by up to 70%. Remote operation via RFID from a smartphone is also possible.
Another important feature - particularly for those involved in materials handling - the motor allows mains and starter applications to be carried out more easily with a motor.
Rather than using a large number of different variations to facilitate economic operations, the Smart Motor contains more intelligence in the terminal box, allowing it to cover speeds from 500 to 2,600 rpm while maintaining constant torque.
Another feature is the adjustment process itself – as it can take the form of a contactless procedure without addressing or it can be performed at zero voltage using NFC technology. Together with a smartphone app, the motor can be easily prepared for deployment using ‘near field communication’.
Lenze says the Smart Motor can reduce the total number of different motors required by around 70%. This in turn reduces the costs of engineering, documentation, procurement and stocking spare. The functional range has also been extended, in comparison with conventional motor starters. Examples of its functions include speed switchovers and the ability to set individual start-stop ramps.
