Improved protection against arcing

Rittal Ri4Power switchboards are said to offer improved protection against accidental arcing within electrical switchgear systems.

A key objective when developing the Ri4Power modular sys-tem was to protect against accidental arcing which can result in serious injury to personnel as well as leading to lengthy pro-duction downtimes.

Rittal carried out extensive testing to ensure that the switch-boards complied with IEC 61641 standards. Segregation and insulation of busbars ensures that screws and tools can not come into contact with unprotected busbars, functional units and terminals, reducing the risk of internal arcing.

In line with IEC61641, the system also utilises pressure relief covers to reduce excessive pressure and explosive gasses in the switchgear within 30ms. During any internal arcing faults the doors and covers must not open causing dangers to per-sonnel.
