Emco switches combat harsh environments

11 April 2008

Pressure Vacuum Level (PVL) has announced a new range of switches designed to combat heavy-duty environments with high pressures and temperatures. The level switches, from Emco, will be distributed in the UK by the Crowborough based supplier, which claims they are compatible with, and a possible replacement for, Solartron Mobrey switches.

PVL says it can supply flanges, gaskets and fitting kits to make replacement straightforward.

The switch uses a Type A mounting flange and has a standard M20 x 1.5 mm cable gland connections. Manufactured from stainless steel, it is tested to 100 Bar pressure and to operate in liquids to 225°C and ambient temperatures up to 80°C.

The top-entry version, with variable hysteresis adjustment, is available for tanks up to 3,000mm deep. The lever carries a permanent magnet which is opposed by a similar magnet in the switch housing. The mating flange of the level switch separates these magnets. Both the top and side-entry models have a choice of switching options including SPDT with gold or silver contacts, NAMUR and pneumatic. The pneumatic is safe for hazardous environments. Approvals include Det Norske Veritas, Lloyds Register of Shipping and Bureau Veritas.
